Beatrix Potter Beatrix Potter

In 1901 an illustrated story called The tale of Peter Rabbit was published. It appeared without notice in a small edition published privately by it's author Beatrix Potter but the idea first came from a picture letter sent to Noel Moore, the son of her former governess, eight years earlier in 1893. Within a year it had been taken up by a commercial publisher and became an instant best seller. It and the twenty-two other little books that followed make up what is now one the most successful children's series in the world.

Brambly Hedge Brambly Hedge

The mice of Brambly Hedge live on the other side of the stream across the field. If you look very hard amongst the tangled roots and stems, you may see a wisp of smoke from a small chimney, or through an open door, a steep flight of stairs deep within the trunk of a tree.

The stories of Brambly Hedge were created and written by Jill Barklem and were first published in 1980.

Mabel Lucie Attwell Mabel Lucie Attwell

Renowned for her illustrations of chubby cheeked children and plump puppies, no Christmas was complete without one of her colorful annuals and her postcards, produced by Valentines of Dundee, sold in their millions.

Noddy Noddy

Noddy was created by Children's book writer, Enid Blyton ( 1897 - 1968 ) and was first published in 1949. The original illustrations were drawn by a Dutch artist, Harmsen van der Beek but various artists have drawn the character since his death in 1953. Since the first publication, over 154 books have been published of various shapes and sizes and many items of merchandising have been produced including nursery china, figures and toys and games.
